Something Different

Do you have an old piece of furniture you'd like to give a new lease of life, or maybe you want to have a computer that doesn't look like a computer.

You'd be surprised what you can turn into a computer with either a specialised function or just a standard configuration. How about an old toaster, or radio?

This is what we did with an item we found on eBay. In need of something to play music outside during last summer we went looking for an old stereo going cheap on eBay, instead we found something that got us thinking. Someone had restored an old gramophone player, there were no insides just the box but looking good as new.

We installed a low end computer into the middle section, nothing special we used as many reconditioned parts as possible to keep the cost down, we used a wireless network connection so we could 'talk' to it from another computer (no need for a monitor). The operating system is Linux (that's free) and we installed a special program that turned the old gramophone into a modern day MP3 player.

By simply going to a web page we can set up our playlists and have our own choice of music outside whenever we want. To give us extra options we also installed a car CD player which means we can also play standard music CD's as well as listen to the radio if we prefer.

From the outside the Gramophone player looks original but hidden inside the modern day technology has turned an old music making machine into what has now become know as 'The Duke' (for Juke Box).

We can do almost anything for you, all you need is to supply a piece of furniture or equipment with an empty space at least the size of a small shoe box.

Costs will vary depending on what you need the computer to do and the size of the space we have to work with, as a rule the smaller the space the more it will cost as very small computer components are more expensive to buy than their full size counterparts.
